Aretha Franklin - A Natural Woman

I have always thought that this was one of Aretha Franklin's best songs. I really like the sentiment that is expressed here, can you imagine your lady (or man for that matter) saying this to you.



This song is on one of my favorite Aretha Franklin CD's as a matter of fact. It gets a lot of play and is one of those CD's that you might trade for your whole collection.

Brook Benton: Rainy Night In Georgia

When I think of Brook Benton, I think Silky and Smooth. That is what the man's voice was like for me and many other soul and R&B music fans of the sixties and seventies. I think this clip of him doing his smash hit Rainy Night In Georgia is so cool.

Over the years his rich baritone voice won him seven number one R&B hits and eight Top Ten items. He had worked on the gospel circuit before he signed with Okeh in 1953. But it was not until sometime later that he achieved fame.

Brook died of complications from spinal meningitis in Queens, New York City, at the age of 56, on 9 April 1988.

It's the Birthday of James Brown

James Brown was born on May 3, 1933 and he passed away on December 25, 2006. He was an entertainer among other things. He is recognized as one of the most influential figures in 20th century popular music and was renowned for his vocals and I personally loved the way he danced.

According to Wikipedia he was known as

... a prolific singer, songwriter, dancer and bandleader, Brown was a pivotal force in the music industry. He left his mark on numerous artists. Brown's music also left its mark on the rhythms of African popular music, such as afrobeat, jùjú and mbalax, and provided a template for go-go music.

Brown began his professional music career in 1956 and rose to fame during the late 1950s and early 1960s on the strength of his thrilling live performances and string of smash hits. In spite of various personal problems and setbacks he continued to score hits in every decade through the 1980s. In addition to his acclaim in music, Brown was also a presence in American political affairs during the 1960s and 1970s.

Brown was recognized by numerous titles, including Soul Brother Number One, Sex Machine, Mr. Dynamite, The Hardest Working Man in Show Business, The King of Funk, Minister of The New New Super Heavy Funk, Mr. Please Please Please Please Her, "I feel good" The Boss and foremost The Godfather of Soul.
