Red Garland was born on May 13, in 1923, and he passed away on April 23, 1984. He was a hard bop jazz pianist whose block chord style influenced many jazz pianists that came after him.
Like must pianists of his time he was influenced by a mix of music by Nat Cole, Bud Powell and Ahmad Jamal. Which he incorperated into his own unique approach to jazz music. Just as his style of playing block chords would influnce the players of the 1960s.
