Island 50th: New Ground Years

The New Ground Years, covering 1967 to approximately 1980.
1967 brought Sergeant Pepper and A Whiter Shade of Pale, followed by an explosion of diversity in popular music. Pop songs were no longer "moon in June", radio stations were no longer limited by the "two-minute barrier" and influential DJ's, particularly John Peel, were providing exposure to experimental, even dangerous, music.

Fantastic Music - just a sample of the great music they signed up and developed

Nirvana - Paper Chaser

Jethro Tull - Living in the Past

Roxy Music - Virginia Plain

Bob Marley - Exodus

and Free, Spooky Tooth, Fairport Convention, King Crimson, John Martyn, Cat Stevens, Uriah Heep, Mott the Hoople, Vinegar Joe, The Chieftains ........
