The Jam 1976-1983)
By the early 1980s, The Jam were one of the biggest bands in Britain, certainly in my friendship group. They became the only band other than The Beatles to perform two songs ("Town Called Malice" and "Precious") on one edition of Top of the Pops.
Style Council 1983-1989
The Style Council played in a wide range of musical styles, from pop and jazz to soul/R&B and folk-styled ballads.
Solo Career 1990 on
I download all of his albums - I particularly enjoyed the release of Stanley Road 1995 which took him back to the top of the British charts. The album was named after the street in Woking where he had grown up. It marked a return to the more guitar-based style of his earlier days.
